Infertility: Is it possible for your body to be your Enemy?

Infertility issues may arise due to several reasons, which are most external factors like lifestyle choices. Unhealthy eating, smoking, environmental factors and drug usage may lead to infertility issues. Your body may also play a significant role to cause infertility and thus become your worst enemy.

How does your body become your own enemy?

Antibodies present in your body might affect your conceiving ability. Anti-sperm antibodies present in men can prove to be their enemy. The work of antibodies is to combat foreign germs like bacteria, germs which try to enter the body. However, you may not expect it to combat the body producing sperms. But in a few cases, the sperm is likely to be attacked by these antibodies, thereby preventing fertility in diverse ways. The sperm may not be allowed by the antibodies to travel properly through cervical mucus region in women. The sperm may also not be able to fuse properly with the egg. It may also inhibit the ability of the sperm to penetrate within the egg to initiate fertilization.

Not all men face the same issues of devoting antibodies as it might occur in some naturally. It can also be due to surgery conducted on male genitals, vasectomy reversal or related to some previous injuries or infections.

Infertility issues may also be caused by your body’s hormone production. In women, if there are noticed hormonal imbalances, then the body’s ability to ovulate or release an egg gets hampered. Perhaps, your body may produce very less or excessive of a specific type of hormone. Fortunately, it is possible to identify hormonal imbalances. Some effective solutions for this problem include hormone supplements.

Even blocked fallopian tubes are likely to affect fertility. The tubes may get blocked due to any damage, adhesions, endometriosis, scar tissue or infections. This will mean the egg will not be in a position to enter the uterus and thus, the sperm will not reach the egg. In case the blockage is found to be limited within a small region, then it can be removed through open tubal surgery. The specialist may also suggest alternative fertility cure like IVF.

You may be of the opinion that it is your wrong lifestyle, food choices or some unwanted habits that is causing infertility. But the truth is that your own body may be fighting against you, not allowing you to conceive a baby.
