Oligospermia – Does Ayurveda Have a Cure?

Oligospermia is a condition observed in men with insufficient sperm count. When the sperm count falls below 15 million sperm per ml, a man is suffering from Oligospermia. This condition may be triggered due to many abnormalities in a man. When the spermatogenesis suffers on account of a malfunctioning reproductive organ, there may be abnormalities in the sperm production, motility or morphology. This usually leads to a decrease in sperm count or cause abnormalities in semen quality. Obstruction to the flow of sperms is considered to be the major cause of Oligospermia. A testicular trauma or a surgery to the reproductive organs may also cause this condition. Sometimes, bad lifestyle and eating habits may be the hidden cause of Oligospermia.

Ayurveda does not explicitly mention any treatment for Oligospermia but provides the quality of a fertile semen. This imperfection in the semen quality is a result of a malfunctioning reproductive organ. This can be treated by the methods of Vajeekarana therapy mentioned in the texts of Ayurveda. This therapy is known to improve the working of Male reproductive organs thereby ensuring the optimum quality of semen in the ejaculation. Since this condition is not linked to any of the sexual debility conditions, many assume that Ayurveda has no explicit methods to treat it. The branch of Ayurveda believes in balancing the body, nourishing it and hence boost your longevity. The detoxification and rejuvenation therapy followed by the Vajeekarana therapy advised as per Ayurveda guidelines help regularise the functioning of the reproductive organs and hence overcome Oligospermia.
