Know the causes of Female and Male Infertility

There are many couples who suffer from infertility issues. They fail to conceive a baby even after having unprotected sex for over a year. This problem is not restricted to a certain region, but experienced across the globe.

Approximately 40% of such cases are cited due to problems arising with the male sperm. The other 40% is cited to be due to female problem. Such causes generally include tubal problems, ovulation problems, cervical factors and endometriosis. The remaining 20% of all infertility issues is related to both female and male or some unknown cause.

What problems are faced by men?

In men, infertility issues may take place in their sperm. Increasing number of men is experiencing low sperm count. The average sperm count in a normal person in 1 ml. semen is found to be over 20 million. Hence a man having sperm count of about 5-20 million is stated to be subfertile. Similarly, the man having sperm count much fewer by 5 million are referred to as infertile. The fact is that sperm are not known to swim well referred to as sperm motility. They also lack in normal structures and hence, results in issues. Moreover, some sperm could have abnormalities in its tail or head or could be immature. Abnormal semen volume tends to reduce successful fertilization chances.

What problems are faced by women?

Female infertility mostly results from ovulatory problems. In such cases, no eggs might get fertilized. There may also arise problems with pituitary and thyroid glands, which may cause ovulatory problems. This is because they release hormones essential to regulate menstrual cycle in women. Medications are prescribed to stimulate fertility. If monthly ovum is produced and body temperature in the morning is a bit higher during oluvation time and there is release of luteinizing hormones just before ovulation, then you do not suffer from ovulatory issues.

Treatment

An x-ray exam termed hysterosalpingogram is conducted on women to determine if there is any blockage in the fallopian tube. Through this exam, it is possible to find if dye material is able to pass through the tube. After conducting this exam, many women have reported to have become pregnant, since the dye material on passing through the fallopian tube has removed prevailing obstruction within the tube.

The doctor will perform different types of tests on the couples to find out the issue and provide treatment accordingly.
