Acne & Sex always has been in the debate for quite some time. There are some facts & myths believed by people all over the world of which some are not authentic. The very first thought that comes to a man’s mind is link related with acne and masturbation.

Myth about sex & acne

Masturbation is known to have a bizarre history and also the moot point. According to myth, masturbation is likely to cause mental disturbance, blindness, severe hair growth and acne.

The other aspect that people consider about regular sex is growing beard much faster and to appear more manly. Acne & sex does have some kind of relation among them. The fact is that a link does exist between men’s sex hormones and his hair and skin condition and texture. However, beards do not grow in castrates, nor do they go bald or get acne.

At the same time, it is still to be confirmed if sex raises up the body’s sex hormone levels. Several attempts have been made to find out the link that exists between acne and sex. Hormone changes are experienced by the body as the person attains puberty. This in turn results in maturation and development of sexual organs including prime features. Zits or acne is the result of such hormonal alterations. Acne is related to such changes. In such case, linking it with sexual activity is not correct.

During puberty, sexual hormone level also referred to as androgens (testosterone) is stated to be more eminent. They could heighten simultaneously the person’s sexual desires as well as also enhance special body oil production called sebum. If with this additional sebum, some specific type of bacteria referred to as P. Acnes is present, then it could result in acne development. It is stated to be the only link which establishes relation between acne & sex. Hence, the truth can be accepted that sex is not perhaps the only cause for formation of acne.
