A good number of men and women across the globe are said to suffer from infertility issues. But many fear to reveal it in public due to the social stigma that is associated with it. However, this is becoming an increasingly common medical problem and will require proper and timely treatment.

Infertility as per Ayurveda takes place when an individual’s reproductive tissue or Shukra Dhatu does not get nutrition in sufficient amounts. This can be the result of certain toxins or poor digestion. Ayurveda also suggests other causes for infertility like:

Infertility treatment with Ayurveda

Ayurveda is considered to be a holistic approach towards treating the entire body and not just any individual illness. The objective is to makes sure that food is properly converted into valuable nutrients and moved within the ‘dhatu shukra’. Ayurveda suggests few treatments for infertility:

Vamanam: The wasted products or vitiated dishes are treated via the upper gastro-intestinal track. It is also referred to as therapeutic vomiting and cleanses the Kappa, Pitta and undigested food. This therapy uses liquorices, sweet flag and emetic nut. Although uncomfortable, detoxification induces vomiting, thereby eliminating undigested food from the body.

Swedanam: In this process, the patient is compelled to perspire, thus eliminating impurities from his/her sweat glands. It helps cure vata dosha and is performed through heat chamber using a medicated steam or external heat application. Exercises or heavy blankets are often recommended to infertility patients to sweat profusely. It helps eliminate toxins.

Triphala Churna, Gokshura and Guduchi: It helps clean blockages present in the body and prevents dhatu shukra production.

Ashwagandha Churna Y Kapikacchu: They can enhance sperm quality and count.

Banyan tree bark: The bark powder of dry fig tree is often recommended by Ayurveda practitioners and it should be combined with sugar. It can help treat infertility problems.

Shatavari: It helps cure female infertility.

Practitioners recommend medications like Lehyams, Arishtams and Kashayams. These are oral medications which are extracted from spices, leaves and medicinal herbs.
