Sex and Aging Men

Sexual activity is impacted by the several issues that men face at some point of time in their lives. Like women, men also do not have any certainty on age limit for sex. Getting an erection takes time among older men and face premature ejaculation. The physical changes noticed in sexual arousal are because of changes in hormone level.

Andropause

With age, there is decrease in hormones among men. At times, Andropause is known as AMS (aging male syndrome or ‘male menopause’, experiencing between 35 – 70 years, however, mostly during early 50s.

Hormone level decline is gradual when compared to estrogen level’s rapid fall, which marks women’s menopause onset. Men at 30 produce less testosterone, even though the levels may vary, while few 70 years old may have testosterone levels matching those in their 30s. Physical effects can be noticed with gradual hormone level decline. Some Andropause symptoms are:

  • Reduced sex drive
  • Lack in energy
  • Decreasing endurance and strength
  • Mood swings
  • Less strong erections

Potential risks can be seen with hormone replacement therapy, developing prostrate cancers.

Reduced Desire

Reduced sex drive and energy is caused by declining testosterone level. Decrease in desire could be due to aging, but this does not mean you should let out the ‘sexual flame’ to evaporate. Being sexually active can help the sexual organs to perform well and have firmer erections.

Stress, medication, depression, relationship issues can be other factors for fading desire.

ED (Erectile Dysfunction)

ED also known as Impotence is not a result of Aging. It takes place, when the person has continuous issues achieving, sustaining erection, which could be due to physical, emotional and mental, and drinking medications.

Finding out the cause is the first step towards treating the issue. A good physician is to be visited for checkup.

Few tips to follow:

  • Maintain healthy habits
  • Consume well
  • Regularly exercise
  • Stop alcohol consumption
  • Quit smoking
  • Reduce stress

PDE5 inhibitors (Medication)

Having impotence treated is to involve both the parties. Working together can help to restore sexual confidence and intimacy. Communication lines are to be kept open and quality time spent with one another.
