PCOS – A Modern Silent Epidemic

A new study has observed that incidence of PCOS in adolescents in India has reached 9.13% and goes up to 26% in adults. This is an alarming statistics which indicates that PCOS has become the modern silent epidemic affecting the women. Early diagnosis during adolescence is now prescribed to avoid the occurrence of this condition. There are many factors which contribute to the development of cysts in reproductive organs. When multiple cysts are formed they block the growth of healthy eggs and hence cause ovulation failure. Hormonal imbalance is the primary cause of PCOS in women. This imbalance is brought about due to continuous exposure to stress, poor lifestyle habits, certain hormonal medications or supplements.

It is observed that women with PCOS are also diagnosed with insulin resistance. They are also prescribed diabetic medications to overcome insulin resistance and promote hormonal balance. But, all this medication may have a degrading long-term effect on the reproductive organs in a woman. It is important that a more natural and safer method of inducing hormonal balance is chosen. Ayurveda and Yoga are the two important traditional methods of healing which produce consistent and long-lasting Results.
