The Genital Herpes is an infection caused by the Herpes Simplex virus type 1 and 2. This viral infection is contagious and spreads upon contact. Symptoms
The symptoms include fluid-filled blisters, or red rashes over the skin, near the mouth, genitals or rectum. This sign indicates that infection has begun a week earlier. In women, painful urination, abnormal vaginal discharge may also be observed. The blisters are painful making the area sensitive. The blisters heal on their own accord within few weeks. Most of the cases of HSV infections are accompanied by fever. The diagnose of this condition requires a blood test.
What does the virus do once inside?
The virus is neurotropic in nature meaning, it can access the nervous system once inside the body. It resides in a nerve cell and is masked from the immune cells of the body. During the reactivation phase, the virus transports itself to the skin tissues and spreads upon contact. A person infected with this virus may shed it during the asymptotic phase. During this phase, the infection has not begun yet, but a partner may be infected upon sexual contact.
