Teratozoospermia – How Can Ayurveda Help?

Teratozoospermia is a condition wherein about 98% of the sperm in the semen has an abnormal morphology. Sometimes, men suffering from this condition may observe increased semen count but since all the sperms are abnormal in shape they are unable to fertilise the egg. This abnormal morphology may be a result of any physical underlying condition interfering with the sperm production or maybe a congenital disorder which went undetected at birth. This condition can be diagnosed only after a semen analysis is performed. The only treatment suggested for men with the poor morphology of sperms is IVF or ICSI.

The assisted reproductive techniques may affect the healthy female reproductive system because of the hormonal injections she is prescribed for producing more than one egg at a time. This method of treatment may fail to give results because of malfunction at the cellular level like the sperm may not fertilise the egg even though it was injected into it.

Ayurveda aims to provide a solution to the problem by identifying the root cause and treating the same. Unlike the ART methods which rely on a field expert to select a healthy sperm, Ayurveda lets the Mother Nature decide the strongest for conception. The cleansing of the reproductive organs by use of the Panchakarma methods helps improve the receptor ability of the organs to the herbal concoction. The herbs are known to optimise the functioning of the reproductive organs which regularise the functioning of the body at a cellular level and hence help mother nature protect and nurture the selection.
