Infertility in Women – A Common Concern

An advanced world has a woman in the forerunner, juggling work place and home with perfect adeptness. Today’s woman knows her dreams well and is clear about how to realize them. In this race to achieve their place in career, motherhood takes a backseat. The urge to make a mark and earn an identity of her own, is very strong and does not let, motherhood interfere with its progress. Having said that, today’s woman is also the one, facing unexplained fertility issues, when the time finally arrives for, conception. Factors which work against fertility for a woman are many. Some of the prime reasons which cause infertility in women are listed below.

Addiction to Caffeine, alcohol or smoking – A declining health profile

In today’s fast paced life, addiction to caffeine is due lack of better alternative. With approaching deadlines to meet, board meetings to host and many product releases to host, there is always a mad rush, a tension gripping every person involved in this aspect. Caffeine and alcohol flows freely in such an event. It is more out of, compulsion than addiction that women, in these times are taking to smoking, alcohol and excess caffeine. It is also noted that women today, face variety of physical and psychological health concerns, due to rising pressure and stress, which builds up due to juggling work and domestic front.

Obesity, the silent and unnoticed factor

Obesity is a common concern to every woman. This factor tends to affect hormonal balance and thereby give rise to, conditions such as PCOS, which interfere with functioning of reproductive system, which eventually causes infertility in women. On the other hand, conditions such as anorexia nervosa and bulimia, also tend to cause imbalance in hormonal and thyroid secretion, resulting in irregular or absent menstrual cycles.

Aging, STD and other general factors

With age, capacity of producing healthy eggs in a woman declines, which indicates that, infertility is pronounced in aged women who have postponed motherhood. It is also noted that, there is increase in STD cases, in men and women. Hence it is important to practice safe sex. Sexually transmitted diseases such as, Chlamydia, Gonorrhea are known to cause infertility in women. If the working environment exposes women to toxins like, mercury, DDT, PCB and lead, a woman is highly prone to infertility, because these compounds get absorbed and metabolized into secondary products which are harmful to reproductive system.
