Ayurvedic Medicine for Ovulation Induction

Ovulation is an important process in a woman’s body which determines her fertility. Vitiations in the Vata in women may induce malfunctioning of the ovulatory system. A random study conducted on women suffering from infertility observed that 40% of the cases were due to ovulatory dysfunction disorder. Ayurveda terms infertility in women as Vandhyatva. Missed ovulations are due to vitiated Artava or the ovulation process. Depending on the type of vitiation or Kshaya in the body, suitable herbal remedies may be suggested.

For hormonal imbalance triggered ovulation vitiation, Nirgundi is the best herb. It regulates the functioning of the pituitary gland which in turn regulates the secretion of hormones like estrogen, progesterone, etc. This herbal mixture is used to induce ovulation and also increase its frequency. Another herbal remedy in the form of seeds is the Atasi. The seeds contain lignans which are known to regulate hormonal functioning in a body.

Vrischikali is another powerful herb recommended to treat ovulation dysfunctional disorders in women. Being rich in anti-oxidants, vitamins and calcium, this herbal remedy improves the overall well-being of a woman.

If the ovulation is disrupted due to development of cysts, a herbal mix of Guggulu, Varun, Latakaranj and Kachnaar, is the best remedy. Herbs like Shatavari, Ashoka, Aloes, Dashmool, etc., are also suggested in some cases. Depending on the body type and Dosha requiring balancing, herbal medicines need to be customised to some degree. Hence, a remedy which works for others may not be suitable for your body type.
