An Ayurveda Approach To IVF And Infertility

In-Vitro-Fertilization is a commonly suggested procedure for couples who did not conceive even after a year of unprotected sex. This procedure is suggested when the woman is unable to produce a healthy egg naturally. In this procedure, the eggs and sperm are extracted, processed and fertilized in a Petri dish. The embryo thus formed is then implanted to the woman’s uterus.

Even though the procedure is simple, the woman has to take numerous hormonal injections and medicines which encourage her body to produce more than one egg. The eggs thus extracted are processed to remove the poor quality ones. But, no algorithm can match the nature’s selection of best egg and sperm for fertilisation. This is the primary cause of IVF failures. The failure in IVF cases may be due to the thinner endometrium, poor response from Ovaries, or stress in general.

When one switches to the Ayurveda, he/she can rely on nature’s selection of gametes and hence a successful conception which is free of any congenital disorder is achieved. The Ayurveda looks to solve the basic problem by identifying the malfunctioning organ and setting it on the right course.

Unlike in the IVF where a woman worsens the already imbalanced Doshas in her body, Ayurveda works towards restoring this balance thereby making conception by natural means a reality. The Panchakarma treatment is the pre-requisite to the fertility treatments in the Ayurveda. Before prescribing any herb or Rasayana for optimising the reproductive organ functioning, it is best to cleanse and detoxify your body and prepare it for conception.
