An Ayurvedic Approach to Premature Ejaculation

Premature ejaculation is a condition which is characterised by early ejaculation and sometimes, inability to hold an erection. Quicker discharge of semen from the penis is a major issue with men suffering from premature ejaculation(PE). This condition can be broadly classified into primary PE and secondary PE. At times, men who have had no sexual experience with women may assume that they suffer from PE. The assumed and secondary PE is often a result of excessive masturbation. PE is confirmed if a man cannot hold an erection for more than 90 seconds in the vagina. A study confirms that only 2.5% of men suffer from such acute form of PE.

Primary PE is a condition which manifests itself from the onset of active sex life. The secondary PE develops gradually over time. The former condition requires a mix of cognitive behaviour therapy coupled with counselling and medication. While the latter condition is easily treated with lifestyle and behaviour changes in conjunction with the Herbal mineral formula.

Is SSRI therapy right for PE

The Serotonin is linked with the feel-good quotient of a person. The social behaviour and mood swings are attributed to the changes in the serotonin levels in the brain. This hormone is found and produced in the brain and the gastrointestinal tract. The SSRI therapy or the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors medication changes the levels of serotonin. This therapy is used to treat depressions triggered due to an imbalance in serotonin secretion. It is a well-known fact, PE is not a mental disorder. Hence, it is prudent that SSRIs are not used to treat this condition.

Also, the conventional SSRI therapy believes that by increasing the serotonin level in the blood, it can achieve a similar increase in the brain. This assumption has no proof. Moreover, this treatment may worsen the existing condition and lead to loss of libido.

The Science of Ayurveda for treating PE

The mix of rare herbs according to the guidelines of Rasayana chikitsa, Rasa Shastra and the Vajeekarana chikitsa delivers a medicine with the capability to cure chronic PE. The herbal preparation thus prepared is known as Akarakarabha (Anacycluspyrethum Linn.), and (Occimum santum Linn.). When the herbal treatment is mixed with counselling, and CBT(cognitive behaviour therapy), the results are convincing and permanent. To be able to reap benefits from the science of Ayurveda, it is essential that one consults a good practitioner in this science.
