Ayurveda based sex rules

What Ayurveda says about sex

Sex according to traditional belief is meant for reproduction purpose only. Ayurveda, according to others is assumed to be a perpetrator of such philosophy, which is not so. Sex to reproduction is not restricted by Ayurveda. It provides in-depth nourishment and needs to be indulged periodically. This laissez faire however comes with some rules.

Ojas creation

According to Ayurveda, 7 dhatus or essential tissues are present in our bodies, of which one is rasa dhatu. Serum, sap or rasa is the blood’s white part. Sexual fluids come from this rasa termed as sukra dhatu, which has a month long formation process. It is a refined form. Sukra dhatu or sexual fluids are products of our body’s efforts. It is from such fluids that concentrated rasa form emerges termed ojas.

Apana vayu

It is a sexual energy force that refers to one among the five winds present in the lower segment of our body. This factor regulates orgasm, reproduction and menstruation. With healthy vayu, it retains rootedness sense intact in us.

Is orgasm good

There are numerous articles on the web promoting benefits offered by orgasm on the body. It boosts immunity, releases stress, strengthens relationship and produces oxytocin. But Ayurveda is of the belief that an orgasm under specific circumstances can be quite harmful for the body. It is because, vata dosha is produced by sex in the body, causing depleting effect. A rasa, Sukra dhatu is lost by the body due to vata dosha, thus limiting ojas production.

Ayurveda’s sex tips

Sex as per Ayurveda, causes vata dosha buildup in the body. The morning after sunrise, but prior to 10am or early evening is the perfect time to get engaged in sex. Ayurveda is against night time sex. Early spring and winter are also ideal seasons for having more sex. Vata influence increases in fall and summer.

Ideal sex frequency

People in good health can experience 3-5 times sex a week, during winter and spring. Without this their bodies are likely to develop ojas, which otherwise is to be ideally spared.

Some valuable tips

It will be useful to have foods which boost sukra dhatu production and are natural aphrodisiacs like milk, coconut juice and ghee. Post-sex, always take bath, wear comfortable, clean clothes. Practice self-massage with oil before bathing, termed as abhyanga.
