What is IVF?

In Vitiro fertilization. This procedure is done in a lab. Sperms are collected and either put or injected (ICSI) into a petri dish to fertilise the egg. After fertilization, healthy embryos are put into the uterus to grow and become a baby.

Causes of IVF failure

  • An abnormal embryo or unhealthy embryo
  • Implantation failure (endometrial thickness is very important for implantation of the embryo)
  • Poor pick up of ovum or sperm
  • Pre-treatment stress is the most important cause of failure

Ayurveda says that the most important thing to do to get pregnant is to prepare the womb. Ayurvedic fertility treatments and panchakarma treatments help get the metabolism back on track and make it better. It keeps all three doshas, Vata, Pitta, and Kapha, in a state of balance. It keeps the balance of hormones and the reproductive system. It gets rid of all the toxins in the body and gets the menstrual cycle back on track.

In his book Sharira Sthana, chapter 3, Acharya Shusrutha talks about how sperm and eggs should be.

Shukram, or sperm, should be cold, and Artavam, or an egg, should be hot.

Detoxification/Panchakarma

Panchakarma treatments like Vamana, Virechana, Basti, Uttar Basti, and Nasya help the body get rid of toxins and make the reproductive system stronger.

According to the Prakriti/Constitution of patients, medicines are selected.

  • Amapacana and Agnideepana: Ama is food that hasn’t been digested. This happens when a person eats but doesn’t have enough digestive fire, so the food doesn’t break down. This is when Ama is made. This makes our bodies full of poisons. Panchakarma helps the body get rid of waste.
  • Vatanulomana: Infertility is mostly caused by Vata, which is the main dosha. So it is very important to fix Vata’s functions. A medicine that gets rid of Vata will help fix a messed-up Vata dosha.
  • Both Vamana and Virechana – Gets rid of all the toxins in the body, which makes the metabolism, digestive system, and reproductive system stronger.
  • Basti/Vasty: Helps to strengthen the reproductive system, gets rid of toxins, and boosts the chances of getting pregnant.
  • Uttar Basti is the process of giving an enema through the urethra or the vaginal canal.

All of these procedures help get rid of toxins in the body and fix problems with the ovaries, tubes, and uterus that can lead to infertility. These steps help feed our bodies, wake up our minds, and strengthen our immune systems.

How can you check for infertility?

For men and women, there are different ways to check for infertility that are used by doctors. It usually starts with the doctor trying to figure out what the person’s sexual habits are. Many people think that one of the easiest ways to know if someone is infertile is if they can’t get pregnant after one year of sexual activity without protection.

For women, it can be found out by testing for ovulation, ovarian reserve, hysterosalpingography, imaging tests, or other hormones.

For men, the tests include Semen testing, hormone testing, specialty testing, a testicle biopsy, or genetic testing.
