What is Peyronie's Disease?
Plaques, which are pieces of flat scar tissue, form under the skin of the penis in people with Peyronie’s disease. Peyronie’s Disease Treatment In Koramangala at Khokar Clinic. When you get an erection, these plaques can make the penis bend or become depressed. Plaques are usually painful and can be felt through the skin.
How Does the Penis Normally Work?
The penis is most important for getting urine and sperm out of the body. Inside the penis, there are three tubes. The urethra is one of these tubes. It is hollow, and urine goes from the bladder to the outside through the penis. The corpora cavernosa are the other two tubes. These are soft, sponge-like tubes that fill with blood during an erection to make the penis stiff. The three tubes are held together by the tunica albuginea, which is a tough sheath made of fibres. The penis gets stiff during sex, making it hard enough for sex. The urethra then acts as a path for the sperm to get to the vagina.
Symptoms of Peyronie’s Disease
Peyronie’s disease Most plaques (about 70% of the time) form on the top (or dorsal side) of the penis. The plaques make the tunica albuginea less flexible, which may cause the penis to bend upwards when it stiffens. When plaques form on the bottom or side of the penis, the bend will be downward or to the side. Some men have more than one plaque, which can cause complex curves.
Sometimes, plaques form all the way around the penis. Most of the time, these plaques don’t make the penis curve, but they can make the shaft of the penis narrow like the neck of a bottle. This is also sometimes called “bottle-necking” or “waisting.” In bad cases, the plaque can collect calcium and become very hard, almost like a bone. Men may also notice their penis has shrunk or grown shorter.
Other signs that you might have Peyronie’s disease are:
- bent/curved penis
- lumps in the penis
- painful erections
- soft erections
- having trouble with sex because of a bent/curved penis
If you have Peyronie’s disease, it can make your life worse. Over 75 out of 100 men with Peyronie’s disease are stressed and sad because of it. Many men with Peyronie’s disease are embarrassed and don’t get help because they don’t want to be seen.
How Common is Peyronie's Disease?
About 4 out of every 100 men between the ages of 40 and 70 are thought to have Peyronie’s disease. Men in their 20s and 30s are more likely to have it than men in their 20s and 30s. Estimates of the number of cases may be low because many men may be embarrassed and decide not to see their doctor.
In recent years, there have been more cases of Peyronie’s disease, which is interesting. This could be because there are now new drugs for erectile dysfunction (ED), and doctors may notice Peyronie’s disease in men who go to them for help with ED. Because of this, the number of cases of Peyronie’s disease may keep going up.
Causes of Peyronie’s Disease
Most likely, a small injury to the penis leads to Peyronie’s disease. (See penile trauma.) Most of the time, this kind of damage is caused by vigorous sex, like bending the penis during penetration or putting pressure on it with a partner’s pubic bone. It can also be caused by sports or other accidents. Scar tissue may form in the cells if the tunica albuginea is hurt (fibrosis). The plaque of Peyronie’s disease is made up of this scar tissue. Peyronie’s disease happens when the body can’t heal wounds properly.
Stages of Peyronie's
People often talk about two stages of Peyronie’s disease: the acute phase and the chronic phase. Having a bent or curved penis can be a problem during both phases. You may also have ED.
Acute Phase: The acute phase usually lasts between 5 and 7 months, but it can sometimes last up to 18 months. During this time, plaques form in the penis, the penis bends or curves more, and it may hurt when the penis gets hard.
Chronic Phase: The chronic phase is when the plaque stops growing and the penis doesn’t bend any more. If there was pain with an erection during the acute phase, it will usually be gone by this time.
Other Factors -Peyronie’s Disease Treatment In Koramangala
Not all men who get a minor injury to the penis get Peyronie’s disease. Most researchers think that this means there must be genetic or environmental reasons why plaques form in Peyronie’s disease. Men who have Dupuytren’s contractures or tympanosclerosis or have a close family member with Peyronie’s disease are more likely to get it. Some health problems, such as high blood sugar, smoking, or pelvic trauma in the past, can also make it hard for a wound to heal and may help cause Peyronie’s disease.
Diagnosis
Your doctor may be able to tell if you have Peyronie’s disease just by looking at you. Most of the time, the hard plaques can be felt whether the penis is stiff or not. To see how the penis curves, your doctor may give you a drug that makes it stiff and then take pictures to study. Dynamic ultrasound, which uses sound waves to get a picture of what is in your body, is sometimes used to see where the plaque is, check for calcium buildup, and show how the blood flows in your penis.
Treatment
Only about 13 out of every 100 people with Peyronie’s disease get better on their own. Most experts in health care say that the disease should be treated without surgery for the first 12 months after it is found. Men with small plaques, not much bending of the penis, no pain, and no problems with sex may not need to be treated. There are many ways to get help if you need it.
