losing interest in sex

Loss of interest in sex in men is not an uncommon issue. It is commonly found in men after 60 and sometimes in younger men who have been through physical or emotional trauma. Depression is the common reason which can lower libido in men. Some underlying conditions, medication side effects or chronic illness may also cause a man to lose interest in sex. Loss of interest in sex cannot be termed as impotence. This condition is a precursor to some underlying serious condition which may lead to other sexual debility conditions or even impotence. Few commonly neglected factors which may put you at risk of losing interest in sex are listed below.

Depression

Depression or emotional upheaval may cause men to lose interest in everything, sex included. Lowered libido is a direct consequence of depression and the medications which fight depression. The SSRIs prescribed for treating depression may cause loss of libido or abstinence from sex. Speak with your healthcare provider for alternative modes of treatment or change or adjustment of medicine or dosage.

Restless Legs Syndrome

This disease is known to cause the person suffering from it to lose control over the motion of legs. This loss of control over motor functions to the legs may affect the sexual performance and eventually lead to Erectile Dysfunction. A random study observes that the risk of ED is pronounced if the man suffers from RLS. Also, more than 5 RLS incidents within a month increase the chances of suffering from ED by 50%. Severe or frequent episodes of RLS may cause impotence in men.

Medication and its side-effects

Medicines always come with an information brochure or mention of side effects it can cause when consumed in excess. This finer print is usually neglected by the person consuming them. Also, consuming OTC pills or prescription pills may produce side effects which may nullify the benefits the medication offers. Medications which regulate blood pressure, beta blockers and the ACE inhibitors may cause ejaculation and erection problems as a side effect. The most common side effect to medication is the loss of interest in sex. If you observe a decreased interest in sexual activity or preference, after starting a new course of medicine check with your doctor.

Do not neglect the sleeping difficulties: Sleeping difficulties may be a symptom of Obstructive Sleep Apnea or the OSA. The sleep disorders may alter the testosterone levels and hence cause a loss of interest in the sexual activities.
